Ancient History (Roman Period)

This is a core introductory course to a historical period that left an indelible mark to the shaping of the Balkan Peninsula.

The course aims at introducing students to the administrative, legal, ethnological, linguistic and religious changes that were brought by the Roman conquest and that still determine the fortune of the central Balkan area.

Emphasis will not be given to the narration of political and military activities which after the ascendance of Octavian little did they influence the fortune of the area, but rather to the ”long term” and slight but constant structural alterations that in less than five centuries completely altered Macedonia.
