Visit at the exhibition “The Twilight of the Orient”

The School of Humanities and Dr. Evi Mpaniotopoulou visited the exhibition "The Twilight of the Orient", at the Cultural Center of MIET. The students had the opportunity to scrutinise a rare collection of postcards, describing the history of Thessaloniki from 1912 and beyond, guided by the Director of MIET, Mr Ioannis Epaminondas.

Jews of Salonica in the Modern Period

International Workshop “Jews of Salonica in the Modern Period 1492-1950”

A two-day International Workshop “Jews of Salonica in the Modern Period 1492-1950” took place on 25-26 June 2012 at the International Hellenic University. The workshop was organised in the context of a special issue of the Jewish History Journal on the Jews of Salonica, which is scheduled to be released in 2013. The workshop included ten papers, a plenary speech by Aron Rodrigue (Stanford University), a presentation of the database 'Greek Jewish Shoah Testimonies' and a roundtable discussion.

Prof. Angelos Chaniotis, Professor of Ancient History and Classics at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, visited IHU and gave a lecture on “Inscriptions from the Black Sea: Dramatic Narratives and Emotions” in the context of the course “Ancient and Medieval History of the Black Sea Region”.

Dr. Photis Βaroutsos and the students of the MA in Black Sea Cultural Studies programme visited the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle. The Dean of the School of Humanities, Professor Basil Gounaris, who worked for the Museum some years ago, also joined the group and highlighted some particular points of interest. The visit was organized to coordinate with the course "Contemporary Political & Diplomatic History of the Black Area Region".

International Hellenic University welcomed the students of the new academic year and offered them a chance to know Thessaloniki better. Students of all 3 School enjoyed a guided tour to the  Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, the Museum of Byzantine Culture and the White Tower of Thessaloniki.
